gacked and question from [livejournal.com profile] bookchick

Comment and I'll give you a topic for either a top five or a top ten.

I was given: Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Songs That You Sing At the Top of Your Lungs in the Car During Road Trips!

1) "Where Oh Where Are You Tonight" - from Hee Haw.
2) The entire album "Live Through This" by Hole.
3) "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" from Sweeney Todd by Stephen Sondheim
4) "No Good Here" by Tim Fite
5) "Car" by Built to Spill (I had never seen this great video before...apparently made completely from Library of Congress footage!)
6) "Heaven of My Heart" by Jim White
7) "The Bucket" by Kings of Leon
8) "Purple Bottle" by Animal Collective (someone's very art school home-made video, but the best sound I could find).
9) "A Little Bit Lonesome" by Kasey Chambers
10) "Anthem for a Seventeen-Year Old Girl" - Broken Social Scene

This was fun...I found videos for lots of my favorite songs that I hadn't seen! Admittedly, the last one can't be sung at the top of one's lungs, but it is great for late night driving.

I just found out that Powell's has a partnership program, where you get 7.5% of sales if you link to them and people buy stuff. Not that I flatter myself that people are going to run out and buy books because they read about them on my blog (hopefully they will go to the library), but I have been linking to Powell's from my monthly book lists for three years now, and could have earned a little bit of store credit possibly. Bah.

This afternoon I made it to the Burke Museum with my friend qtilla. It was a nice little museum, with every thing seeming to be of high quality and nicely put together, but not very large. My favorite thing of the day was this contemporary Native drum design:

I love how it incorporates that layered silhouette thing that you see all over the place now days (but I haven't gotten tired of yet), and that the wolf is frisky and appealing. The whole balance and colors of it really delights me.

Overall, I recommend this museum for families who don't want to be exhausted, but want to share good quality stuff with their kiddos.

"When to buy a book" by [profile] discardian.

Only get it when

- you'll read it at least 5 times.

- it's a reference book you'll use a lot.

- you need it under a time constraint (i.e. now) or must have it longer than the loan period at the library.

- you're planning to damage it during use (e.g. flour-filled baking books, workbooks, bathtub reading material).

- you plan to donate it to the library.

- to support the author.

Otherwise, use the library!
