pretty nice day overall
Jan. 17th, 2006 09:23 pmDay started well, with a really lovely swim. There are times when the temperature of the water is just perfect, and I feel powerful and graceful and at peace and home. It makes me feel bad for people who don't know how to swim, or do know how, but don't know how to enjoy it.
Work was up and down. Computers were running slow, so simple things like working on the reference desk schedule became extremely frustrating.
Happily, I had a very nice break when I went and helped out with bookgroup at one of my neighborhood middle schools. I'm very fond of the librarian, and the kids were terrific. And as a bonus, we are going to next read a book that not only has been at the top of my list for sometime, but is waiting already on my bedstand.
Back at the branch a patron couldn't get into Word, and complained liberally to me about how much better our computers and printers used to be, and that we were costing her so much in property taxes, and that we were wasting her tax dollars and she wrote a letter to her representative right then and there (using the free internet service we provide). I tried to give her the talking points and explain the reasons behind the changes, but she would have none of it. Between her, the slow computers, and the massive re-org my system is going through, I just about had it and seriously considered leaving work an hour early, except that I have no time to make it up later this week.
Happily, the day ended well, as I had dinner with my friends D. & K. at a lovely little place I had never eaten at before (though I did rent a kayak there once), The Agua Verde Paddle Club. I had a nice greatfruit margarita, and scallop cerviche for dinner. I got stuffed, and am feeling it now. How I ever intend to lose 10-20 pounds is a mystery.
Now I'm catching up, and listening to the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack, streaming for free online!
