This Saturday:  Red Elvises$20 @ the Tractor (also next Saturday, but I have a big conflict).

Friday the 25th:  Tim Fite with The Watson Twins.  $10 @ the Tractor.

Red Elvises would just be fun.  My band covers a couple of their tunes, and I would enjoy observing the drumming up close.  I do have to work that day, and am going to a party in Bellevue after work...but if anyone was interested in meeting me, I could easily be at the Tractor by 9pm.

Tim Fite is GREAT.  I discovered him when he opened for The Wedding Present.  Odd mix of alternative rock, hip hop and performance art

Well if one is lucky.  Those with bad drainage are not in good shape.

But I find commuting in this stuff to be exhausting.  And, if it doesn't clear up, I may have to skip Portland this weekend.  Currently 20 miles of I-5 are closed due to flooding.  Ug.

If possible, avoid Seattle-Portland highway travel until floods recede. Rivers and streams continue to rise and additional highway and mountain pass closures are expected. If you must go, stay on the interstates. Note that the interstate detour route is 440 miles, takes at least seven hours during good weather and traffic conditions and is vulnerable to  winter closures near Snoqualmie Pass.
Doesn't that sound just dreadful?

update:

Yeah. I don't think Portland is looking likely at all.  More photos here.

I have no problem driving in the snow, or at least I don't freak out, lock up my breaks, block up hills, and cause general chaos. Which is more than I can say for my fellow Seattlites.

I left the house an hour and a half early to stop by the library, pick up a floor sample, and drive to Ballard for a haircut. At the library, I decided I would need a warmer coat. It took me about 20 minutes to do the usual 5 minute drive. Then I got the coat, threw some extra clothes in the trunk (just in case), and got less than a half mile from my house before deciding to cancel the haircut. Every hill had someone stuck on it, and huge backups. Ug.

I'm tempted to just wait a bit and see how things go, but I've got places to be, so instead I'm going to go catch a bus or two...I should be able to get to Greenwood before 6 if I get a plan in action now. After that...hope to get to a party on Capitol Hill. Wish me luck.
