Thanksgiving was very good.  Went for a walk/jog/walk/walk with my dad.  All the way down to Seward Park, around, and back. Figured out how to bring my camera when I go running  Just beautiful out. .  Then we headed down to my aunt's house, smoothly leaving all we brought for her in the backseat of the car.  Doh.  Got to meet my cousin's new kiddo.  Ate good food.  Wasn't forced to sit next to my step-grandmother's single step-son (nice enough guy, I suppose...but isn't he technically my uncle?). Went for a walk on the beach and took pictures of some of my favorite things (leaves, moon, mushrooms, Mt. Rainier, seaweed, peeling paint). Once again made off with the turkey carcass (for making soup tomorrow).  Snuck into a state park with my dad and went down to another beach (would have been super romantic, with anyone other than my father.  Bah.)  Drove home.  Downloaded and sorted through bazillion pictures.  Watched 6 episodes of Weeds with dad.

I'm feeling super thankful.  Thankful for living in such a lovely part of the country.  Thankful for relatives that feed me with absolutely no drama.  Thankful for free library DVDs.  Thankful for my cozy home.  Thankful for an interesting and challenging job.  Thankful for my many varied wonderful friends.  Thankful for my great, yet still improving health.  Thankful that I am in a place where I can be so thoroughly thankful.

Hope you are too.

Hooray for band practice!

After my band took a break for the summer from practice in June, well, we just never got it together again.  And with the new job, I felt too busy to worry about it.  But boy have I missed it.

Last week at dinner with [personal profile] signifier and friends, I connected with [info]leeeah who is also learning how to play.  She is learning bass, and jams regularly with a guitar playing friend.  I invited them over to play tonight, and it was fun fun fun.  I really have missed playing, making music, zoning out to the rhythm, and just interacting with other people at this unspoken level.  And I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I am better at the drums than I give myself credit for...it all came right back, though there certainly is lots of work to be done.  Hopefully, we will play again soon.  I just need to convince everyone to get bigger amps so I don't have to hold back as much.

Two things that have made me particularly happy in the last 24 hours:

1)  A patron calls the library and starts the conversation with the question: "How old were you in 1970?"  "Uh, negative two" I reply.  He seems dismayed, but I am convince him to give me a chance as, I tell him despite my age, I am very well read.  So he goes on to tell me that Bill Cosby used to do albums (of which I am well aware) and his son has just completed work on a very fine go-cart, or maybe it is a pinewood derby thing, and he wants to share with him something Bill Cosby recorded on the topic around 1970.  I had the list of Cosby albums up in Wikipedia before he finished telling me the go-cart story, and Googled the correct album seconds later, really it was very simple.  But he was absolutely delighted, and felt compelled to gush about how wonderful am I.   I can't even fake feeling bashful, I love it when my skills are appreciated and I get to help people connect with things that seem silly, but are heartfelt important to them.

2) Driving to work in the dark and fog this morning, there were two instances of oncoming traffic going in a contrary uphill manner that resulted in the beams from their headlights being broken up into wonderful fanning rays.  I wish I could have caught it in a picture, but that whole driving thing does get in the way sometimes.  Ah well...another small thing to look forward to glimpsing again in my commute with luck.

The Sierra Club sends out a nice little thing called Daily Ray of Hope. It is really nice to get hope in your inbox. This is from Wednesday:

I've made an odd discovery.
Every time I talk to a savant I feel quite sure that happiness is no longer a possibility.
Yet when I talk with my gardener, I'm convinced of the opposite.
