I always think of myself as a good sleeper. I generally fall asleep pretty easily (often on the couch watching a DVD), and sleep soundly with good dreams. I've believed for a while that 5 or 6 hours was plenty of sleep for me. When things changed, I could not say. Lately I've been waking up after 4 or so hours. It used to be this was a time when I would quickly use the bathroom, then fall back asleep for another 2 or 3 hours. Now it often involves laying in bed trying to fall back asleep for another hour. Then finally, after laying in the dark, waking up again in another hour. Repeat a few more times. And my dream recall is WAY down.  I'm hoping getting back into exercising will help.

Last night, or rather this morning, I slept for 4 hours. I went for my mile swim yesterday, then [info]capn_jil came over and I fell asleep watching on of my all time favorite movies, which she had not seen: M.  After she took off, I decided to finish downloading a backlog of photos off my camera and up onto flickr.  I also did a bit of research on plumbers.  There is nothing like waking up in the dark and thinking about how much it is going to cost you to be able to get back to normal laundry, shower, and consistent flushing, for not falling back to sleep.  But this is a bullet that must be bitten...putting it off will only kill future sleep.

In an hour I am going snowshoeing.  Hopefully that will exhaust me enough for a full 8 hours tonight.  Wish me luck.

Fighting fires may sound taxing, chasing criminals demanding, but a new study says that working in library is the most stressful job of all. The BBC says Librarians are the most unhappy with their workplace, often finding their job repetitive and unchallenging, according to psychologist Saqib Saddiq. He will tell the British Psychological Society that one in three workers suffer from poor psychological health. The study surveyed nearly 300 people drawn from five occupations. They were firefighters, police officers, train operators, teachers and librarians and were intended to cover the spectrum, with the librarians first-thought to be the least stressful occupation.

In a survey of five occupations? Not very wide ranging that one. More stressful than deep sea oil rig repairman? More stressful than high school vice-principal? More stressful than emergency room doctor? I'm sorry, while I certainly do agree that being a librarian can sometimes be repetitive and unchallenging, ennui is not the most stressful of conditions to work under, IMHO.
