Does anyone actually think of themselves as a jogger anymore?  Is that passe?  Now everyone is a walker or a runner.  But lets face it, me, I'm old school...80s yuppie style, I jog.

When you are about to go jogging, think twice about putting a new song on your mp3 player.  Because maybe like me you will accidentally hit the"replace all with recently added" combination of buttons, and maybe there is only one song in recently added, and you might think it is odd that the new song comes up immediately when you start out, but you will be too far from home to turn back when the song is over, and starts again.  And again.  And again. ... ... ... ..................................................

Now Artsy by The Grouch is seriously ingrained in my head.  At least the lyrics were interesting for a while.  I think it is better without the video though.

Currently I am determined to comfortably wear a two piece swimsuit for my vacation in April.  However, I spend too much time on the computer and not enough doing what I should be.  Therefore, new rule:  I am not allowed to use the computer at home until I have done 100 crunches.  This counts for morning and night separately.  Oof!

What are your favorite tricks for getting fit?

Yesterday in the changing room at the gym I looked in the mirror and saw something odd.  It was a bit of a shadow, just under my ribcage.  I hesitate to call it an indentation, but that probably is right.  It took me a moment to figure out what it was...my abs!

I've been working out semi-regularly for years, and pretty much resigned myself to the fact my body wasn't going to change...just maybe be a slightly smaller version of the same rolly-polly self.  But recently I've noticed how hard my forearms have become (local friends, you can attest, I have probably made you feel them ;)  And now...abs!  Oh, I still have a poochy little belly...but something has definitely changed.  I'm a different shape, leaner, and quick.   I feel very strong.  Nearly mighty!

Hoorah!

new growth

When I first moved to Seattle, I raised an avocado from a seed and it got to be over a foot tall, but then it died when I was out of town and a friend of my dad's was staying at the place.  I was bummed, and have been trying to get another one going again.  Finally, one of the seeds has taken!

Here are helpful hints on how to do this right.  Last time I missed the step about pinching it back.  I've also read you should do this around 6 inches, which I'm leaning towards for fullness.

Also along the lines of new growth, I feel like I have reached a new plateau in health.  I'm doing a mile when swimming as a regular thing new.  The ankle binding has worked great (I haven't fallen down once since starting it), and I've been running more regularly than ever.  And I've started going to yoga classes every week again.  I feel very energetic and am starting to get that exercise high you hear about.  Its lovely.  Plus, yesterday at the pool I had a good yoga moment, and had a sense of opening in my chest that I don't think I've physically had since I pulled my sternum ten years ago.  The emotional correlation feels great, too.
