Holy crap...I am now pretty sure those owls I saw were the rare Spotted Owls, loathed by the lumber industry, etc. Check it out:

My co-worker thinks it was the Barred. The spotted might be smaller. Do you know?

We saw them down at the arboretum!

My guess would be barred, too, given the location. I thought they only liked old-growth stands.

I have never seen an owl in the city limits. It's one of my new to-dos!
