Slept in, read in bed. Got up, cooked Dad a mushroom omelet. Then we got working on some projects around the house. Insulated some water pipes in the basement, and figured out how much more stuff we needed. Cleaned out big mess of ashes that were overflowing from chimney to basement (and inhaled more than was really sensible). Borrowed ladder from neighbor and put up storm windows. Ran to Lowes and got more house supplies (totally forgetting about Buy Nothing Day). Came home and insulated front door. Pruned rosebushes and pulled out rotting basil and zucchini plants. Now I just need to finish putting plastic sheeting on inside of large window (which is missing/broken? storm window) and will be done for the day.

I love making improvements on the house, however small. Next step: GUTTERS.

I've never been strong with word roots and such, at least not the memorizing of what their greek/latin meaning is, etc...so some times I miss connections between words that I feel silly about not seeing later. Reading Freakonomics, and came across one of those little language things I had never noticed before. What was pointed out was that conventional wisdom is not based in truth, but rather what is convenient for people to believe, either repeated most often, loudest, or convincingly. I'm not sure what changes this make in my perspective, but it is something I'm pondering this weekend...
