a new treat
Mar. 5th, 2006 11:30 amYesterday at dim sum, after I was going on about how much I love the Chinese Broccoli With Oyster Sauce, the waiter suggested we might enjoy a seasonal dish they happened to have that day: dou miao, or pea shoots. They were delightful. Light, delicate, buttery yet hardy. They looked like spinach, but were not at all gritty. I know it sounds silly, but I feel so blessed to have gotten to experience this little treat, especially since it is only offered a few times a year. The waiter said one big box of raw shoots, only makes 3 or 4 servings! If you get a chance to eat this, I highly recommend it.
