Forwarded to my pool buddy mailing list, this is an unexpected effect of the internet and reality television.  A loss?

When I was a kid, I LOVED watching Star Trek. One of my favorite games was to take my wooden blocks and pretend they were transporters and the like. Looking at this series of photos makes me recall how much I loved it when there was some sort of crazy alien on. I was a kid who wanted a tribble, yes I did. I think this was appeased by a fur covered pet rock with googly eyes I owned at one point. I kept a doll suitcase filled with brush, comb, mirror and pebbles for it to eat. (I wonder if I still have that...)

Today I finally had time to make turkey soup with the remains my aunt gifted me.  I decided that since Alice Water's The Art of Simple Food was due back at the library, I had better try a recipe from it.  So I made Turkey Soup with Kale.  I had not cooked with kale before, and found it quite nice.  Brings an added dimension of texture and color to things.

After making this soup, though, I feel I must apologize to all the turkey carcass's that I boiled the hell out of before.  I was wrong.  I have learned my lesson.  Meat off first.  Onion and herbs in early.  Boiled scraps are for the kitty.  This soup is so much better than my old soup (which I liked just fine at the time).

I was happy also to use the soup pot I picked up a while back...most useful while the stock pot was busy with stock, and my other big pot was cooking the kale.

Anyone have suggestions for the extra kale?  Preferably not a soup...my freezer will be full now.

Today has been a nice, restful day at home.  Time to catch up on blogging, reading, and cooking.

Friday my father and I went for a nice long walk at Alki, where we saw sea mammals, birds, dead things, and ate yummy treats.  Then Dad kindly mowed the lawn (which hadn't been done since July) while I cleaned out the basement, then made a satisfying run to Goodwill.  I then went to a story telling party at [profile] leeeah's place, where I ran into a number of folks I hadn't seen in a while, and read The Elephant's Child (people do love a good story about spanking).  Then back home, so Dad and I could finish watching the first season of Weeds.

Saturday was a work day.  I met my friend Q. after work for a hot dippy sandwich, then came home and took a hot bath.  I tried to read until Dad got back from his friend's, but by 8:45 I was passed out, and remained so until morning.  I never sleep that much, and it was nice.

Sunday was more work.  Came home and tried to power through Heroes season one, but didn't get terribly far.  Debated keeping it past the due date, but am so busy with other projects, books, etc...right now, decided to return it and order again.

Today I also got new tabs for my car, watched a bit more of Heroes, wrote some birthday and get-well cards, made soup, and am now going to get ready to head out to be [personal profile] jillbertini's guest at yoga.  Maybe shoot a few games of pool afterwards.

I feel incredibly relaxed, accomplished, and happy.  A tad bit lonely, but not sad...which seems odd to me, but I'm not complaining.
