i love that you do this. you have no idea. i'm seriously about two steps away from stalking librarians for a date.

Don't you have a girlfriend?

Regardless, I'm glad you enjoy the lists. I've only been keeping databases since 2002, but I've been writing down all the books I read since junior high (20 years now??). Someday I really need to make all those lists digital...or at least gather them in one place.

SRSLY. i can't ever connect with anyone who doesn't have that kind of mind. whip-smarties and a love of learning.

and yes, at the moment i do still have a gf. but i'm considering leaving her. permanantly. there are some unreconcilable issues of compatability.

it's sad, as i do love her. lots. more than anyone else ever. in fact i'd say no one knows me better than she does.

but said issue keep coming up and seems to have no resolution.

i'd rather not stay and torture someone i love.

so yeah - i'm considering my options and polishing my library card.

my stupid problem was probably in choosing a girl who seemed a little broken, and thus less scary. she's sweet and amart and awesome to spend time with and she's broken. no fixin possible. (i think)

As my father says, some people are just sick puppies and there is nothing we can do to fix them. But before you decide to write her off, you need to examine what it is in you that decided this was what you needed. And again, if you haven't talked it over with a professional, it is a much better option than opening up to anonymous strangers (who tend to try an be supportive without knowing anything about a situation except what you feed them).

The important thing is that you are connected, and if you want to come out of the situation with integrity you owe it to both of you to give it your best. Has the issue only been discussed amoung yourselves, or with a professional? I find it is rare that an issue is a one person deal. If you don't deal with it now there is a very good chance you will torture the next person you love too.

you know - we ARE connected. that connection has felt so strong that i have not been able to leave, even when it's seemed there was not another good choice. I'm beginning to realize that I have some training from a prior relationship that has made me not-quite-the-ideal mate for this woman. I don't think either of us has access to any sort of professional help. we are without medical insurance, sadly. still - you've given some good advice.

to be honest - i've been looking for someone - who i could talk to in order to get a reality check - an opinion - and i'd hoped it could be from a woman's perspective. she and i have been wrestling things out for so long i'd hoped and outsiders perspective might do some good. i don't blame anyone for not wanting their fingers in this pie tho. i'd gladly spill my guts (not on a public journal) to someone who'd listen.

What do you expect? I'm a professional information provider.

And besides, I felt guilty flirting...if I was in your girl's shoes I would not be pleased, nor want to be treated as such.

I need good karma ;)

I don't know if this is quite appropriate, but I'll do it anyway. You have no reason to feel guilty: flirtation is a normal and healthy interaction between people, there is nothing inherently wrong with it, even if both parties are "taken". As long as it remains in the realm of "just playful flirting" with no intended further outcome, then it is both acceptable and, in some sense, expected amongst most people. As human animals, we are kind of hard-wired this way.

I have thought you were pretty cool from the start. Cheers.
