i've read about this festival before. too bad we have such puritan veiws here. not to be a pig, but i think a festival of fertility would be fun. we're so uptight about our sexuality in the states. we mark this topic as generally off limits and create taboos that encourage people to develop odd complexes about human sexuality. makes me sad.

I don't think most people realize how incredibly prudish the US is compared to the rest of the world (though the whole Janet Jackson thing certainly was revealing, no pun intended). It hit me when I read a kids chapter book from France, where children discussed penises, and a parent had a hangover but wasn't an alcoholic...two things that NEVER happen in American children's books, but were very natural and comfortable and funny in this one.
