shooting in Seattle

By now I'm sure most of you have heard something about the shooting that occurred yesterday here in Seattle. I heard about it in the morning, when I had a police officer out to look at the graffiti on my block and car. He mentioned it to me as we discussed the safety of my neighborhood. I didn't think any more about it until later in the afternoon, when a friend informed me that the shooting had occurred at a party at a Burner house on Capitol Hill. Apparently there were friends of my friends shot, but as far as I know, no one I know...though I'm not positive of this yet.

As far as I can tell, this was a case of a psychotic asshole seeking out random victims. Already the media is grasping for straws and places to throw blame at the victims...reports frequently mention piercings, raves, the presence of alcohol and marijuana at the party, and of course the fact that they had all attended a zombie themed dance party earlier in the evening. I must say, I listened to the full press release from the Seattle Chief of Police (which can be found here), and was very impressed by his efforts to not blame the victims, and how he made it clear that the guns involved were designed to hunt people, not animals.

I am so sick of the violence of this world.
