I woke this morning to a loud buzzing noise, and the miserable feeling of being way too hot for six a.m. What was that noise? Not one, but THREE hornets exploring my bedroom windows. And another seven dead on the window sills. Happily, I did buy one of those personal bug zappers (that looks like a tennis racket) this summer, and if you get under them and tease them on to the metal part you can at least stun them enough to get outside. Or fry them till they make a scary cracking noise.
Then, I found that I had also triumphed over the thing that had woken me the previous day...another mouse. Thank goodness I left that one trap in place!
Household pests: 0. Me: 11.
It was 85 in the house when I woke, and 71 outside, so I got up and did some weeding, put away the dishes, hung some laundry, and made coffee. That feels plenty productive for a Saturday morning. I'm actually glad to be going to work today, at a nice air conditioned library.
Yesterday was a good day, for being so terribly hot. I got up and mowed the lawn, went and had a check-up with my therapist (who is delighted with my current state of mind and affairs), saw Lady in the Water with one of my former teen patrons, and had dinner with a college buddy I hadn't seen in over a year. Then, taking the round the lake route back from Bothell, I stopped at one of my favorite beaches, quickly changed, took a picture of the sunset, jumped in the water, did a cannonball off the diving board, floated a bit, then went home. Received highly amusing reports from ComicCon. Why did I not go? Oh yes, broke(ish). And that was before I knew I would need to get a new water pump, fly to San Francisco, get a new phone, and face an nasty phone bill (good thing I switch companies so I can chat in network for only $5 a month).
Anyhow...things are excellent here. How are you?
