A book you own that no one on your friends list does:

Fine Old Dixie Recipes. I bought this at a yard sale or some such for pretty cheap, for a dear friend who collected cookbooks, but passed away before I could give it to him. It is an interesting book...published in 1938 with a wooden cover, now missing its original leather ties...it is scattered with fairly offensive illustrations and authentic sounding recipes. I wouldn't say it is a prized possession, but I can't imagine getting rid of it either.

A CD you own that no one on your friends list does:

Falco: the Remix Collection. When I was a teenager, probably around junior high, I thought nothing was sexier than listening to Falco while taking a bath.

A DVD/VHS tape you own that no one on your friends list does:

Garlic is as Good As Ten Mothers. A documentary by Les Blank. Aside from being the best movie I know about garlic worship, this is a delight of 70s bay area cooking celebrities and oddness. I love this movie, and hope to someday have all his films. I'm convinced that much like there was a Swing revival, there will soon be a Polka revival. Doubt me? Watch Les's film In Heaven There is No Beer to become a believer.

A place you've been that no one on your friends list has been:

The Magic Lantern Theater, once existing in Spokane, Washington. I adored this place growing up, and miss it still. It was one of those funky art house movie theaters built into an old building, with winding wooden stairs painted white going up to it from the center of the building. Very 70s in my memory, open and airy, with some ferns. There were three theaters, medium, small, and tiny. When I was a kid they showed $1 movies for kids (don't forget, this is before VCRs), and for another dollar you could get a candy bar, small popcorn, and small soda. I usually got Butter Rum LifeSavers. The only two movies I recall seeing there for certain were The Point (fabulous) and that one about the woman living in the haunted lighthouse. Later, when I was a teen, I fell in love with this place again due to their midnight enactments of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I did a quick search, and apparently there is a comedy club in Spokane now with this name, but I'm fairly certain it is not the same place. RIP M.L.
