mmmm...gum

I know many people find it to be a disgusting habit, but I have long been a gum chewer. I usually have one piece of super zingy (so much it makes me sneeze at first) peppermint gum a day. I love my gum. I don't know why.

Recently I had a dream that due to an eminent environmental disaster, some people were going away on buses to live in caves to ride it out (what movie is that from?). I was on one of the buses when I realized that I was going to be down in that cave a long time. I was going to need some gum! So I made them stop the bus, so I could go look for some. I couldn't find the type I liked (and then got distracted by other things...would a sewing kit be useful?) and was at risk of missing the bus. Maybe I didn't really want to be on the bus. Maybe what I really wanted was to go swimming in one of the two massive swimming pools I came across while looking for gum...

Anyhow, point being...I enjoy gum. And so it made me smile to see that when The British Council polled over 35,000 people learning how to speak English on what the most beautiful words were, gum made the list!

There are many other words on the list I like (loquacious being a favorite), but dull little unambitious gum making the list makes me happy this morning.

I am tickled that flabbergasted made the list, too :).

I find it interesting that the first 10 words or so are all emotional for me - I don't think they are particularly beautiful in and of themselves, but they evoke a particular emotion that feels beautiful, you know?

Yes, I do like flabbergasted quite a lot, also.

I think many of these words are more about emotion than how they sound (not all). Which is why gum is such a puzzler...it isn't something I think many people get emotional about, nor does it sound particularly appealing.

What's your poison? I'm usually just a peppermint chewer, but I do indulge in bubblegum occasionally.
