weekend movies

Went with my family over the weekend to see The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. I haven't read the book in a good long while, but the movie brought back to me the things I loved about it as a 4th grader, but not the heavy Christian imagery that turned me off when I tried to re-read them in high school. I loved the costumes, and thought the special effects were worthy of the book. My favorite part was when the beavers were holding hands. I'm such a sap.

Later that same day me and my dad decided to go see Brokeback Mountain. We missed the first minute or so, (anything happen before they go inside the office?), but other than that it was GREAT. The theater was surprisingly packed for Spokane. And damned was that a sexy, sad movie. Thank you, jillbertini for encouraging me to see this. I loved it.

Wow - Spokane! Impressive.

Um, nothing really happens before they go in the office. You can actually watch the first minute in the film trailers - they are just standing around outside, waiting for the boss dude to show up. Jack is shaving his face in his side-view mirror and Ennis is standing around, kind of slouching and being his 19-year old taciturn self.

Sexy, sad movie - what a perfect summation. What did your father think?

I think my dad liked it, though he didn't find the boy-on-boy sex scenes as appealing as I did ;)

I'm sure he didn't find the boy-on-boy sex scenes appealing - and I'm impressed he even went. I don't think I will get my dad to watch the movie, but who knows?

I do want to watch the movie again, but who knows when I'm going to get time to. I have become infatuated with Jake Gyllenhaal and want to watch Donnie Darko now (no, I've never seen it - shock!). :P

Yeah...I had totally forgot about the weapons thing, but that is definitely in the book. I feel bummed for Edmund...did Santa drop him off some coal, or what?

The Ice Queen is just a bitch, plain and simple. But it would be interesting to find out how she got that way. Slash fiction, anyone?

I loved the books in forth grade. The other book of his that I really liked was Till We Have Faces, a retelling of the Psyche and Cupid myth.
