Here is what [livejournal.com profile] jillbertini gave me:

gifting - I've always enjoyed the exchanging of presents, but gifting as a philosophy is something I picked up in the Burning Man community. The idea is that you can have a sharing of presents for no good reason, but for the joy of it. And rather than bartering knickknacks and souvenirs(which was prevalent for a while there) it was encouraged that if something is worth sharing, that should be reason enough for sharing it, not because you expect anything else. I like to get people random gifts, just because it is the perfect gift. I hate buying presents that are forced for the occasion...not because I don't care about the person...but getting something just because, and not because it is a great gift is a letdown. I also like to think about non-materials things you can gift people with, like a little note in the mail, or just listening really well.

ginger - As a kid, the only ginger I knew was the powdered stuff that my mom put in gingerbread cookies. So it was really exciting to me to discover real ginger as an adult and how lovely it is to cook with. And also candied ginger. And ginger Altoids. And ginger beer. I love the flavor of ginger. But I still love gingerbread, too.

bassoon - I took up the bassoon in 7th grade, as my band teacher played and wanted someone to give it a try. I played up until my junior year in college, even learning how to make my own reeds! I really enjoyed it, but never felt confident enough to aspire to being a professional. Someday, when all my debts are paid off, I'd love to get one of my own and take it up again.
